Sunday 18th September.
A wet field at Berkley Castle, just outside Bristol.
Sadly that kind of sums up the day.
But we braved the weather and took the MK1 to her first show.
We were luckily enough to be invited to attend the show with the MK1 Owners Club,
these guys are a great bunch and sum up what we stand for.
They are up for a laugh, passionate about their cars and were very welcoming and friendly.
O and they also won best club stand at the show.
We got to the show early to set up, but within an hour it was filling up with modern, old and non vw cars.
The range of cars on display was excellent, from the newer watercooled cars slung low on a set of
17, 18 or 19" wheels with many choosing a equally impressive I.C.E setup.
These were countered by old school aircooled dubs that basically showed most modern cars
just how stance should be, not low, lower but lowest.
Put simply this thing is on the floor. It's low.
Lowering an old beetle is pretty easy, having had one we know this,
but getting the wheel's sat that tight takes
careful consideration and planning.
The car isn't perfect, the panels dont match and there are a few other issues
but anyone who knows old dub's knows that aslong as its solid the rest,
well that will just fall into place over time.
We love MK1's clearly, as we have just aquired one.
This one has alot of history and the owner is a sound guy and knows his
things when it comes to older VW's.
Having had MK2's and 3's before he knows what to do, where to go
and how to make a eye catching car.
This MK1 is running a 1.8 from the MK2 but its had some work.
The engine was bored out to 1.9 which helps alot with torque in these engines,
the exhaust has been sorted and this matched with a tidy stainless intake helps
the car to breath better, the key to power in a N/A engine.
The car sits quite low on a set of Phase 1 Ronal Turbos and looks amazing.
Keep an eye out for more on this car as we will hopefully be working with the owner soon.
Some of them are funny, some are to show info about the car and some are just for the sake of it.
A little selection here for you of some that were on display Sunday.
As we said, this is a short write up as the weather spoilt the day.
We want to give a huge thanks to MK1 owners club again and to the organisers of the Berkley VW show.
It was a great little day out and at £5 we hope it continues next year and year after...
